Pastor Borgwardt grew up Appleton and Waukesha, Wisconsin.  He attended Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Milwaukee, Northwestern College in Watertown, and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon.  In 1995-6 he served his vicar (pastoral intern) year at Peace Lutheran Church, a mission congregation in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.  Upon returning to the Seminary for his final year, he graduated in 1997.  He was called to start a Lutheran congregation in Savannah, Georgia, where he began his ministry that summer.

He is married to Heidi nee Buege since 1995.  She is a 1994 graduate of Dr. Martin Luther College.  She has taught at WELS schools in LaCrosse, WI, Albuquerque, NM, and Milwauke, WI.  She was the founding Preschool director at Risen Savior Christian Academy in Pooler.  She currently serves as outreach coordinator, substitute teacher, and in other various capacities at Redeemer.

James and Heidi are blessed with four children, Jacob (19), Anna (16), Ella (14), and Miriam (9).  The Borgwardts are thrilled to be counted among the saints at Redeemer who enjoy sharing the good news of Jesus in Fond du Lac and beyond.
